Abstract: Efficiency is the optimal use of the available resources. In the case of the theatres, this includes the maximum use of the theatre time allocated to the list. Delays negatively impact the theatres efficiency, but more seriously affects the patient’s safety specially in the emergency setting and can lead to serious patient safety incidents. Multiple strategies can improve the emergency theatres efficiency. In this review article, we will describe the available strategies aimed at increasing the emergency theatres efficiency.
